Rekortan SMART is the world’s only smart track

With SMART technology embedded in the track, the runner is literally ‘in touch’ with the track. Other facilities might have a technology overlay such as cameras, but our actual tracks are smart which makes them unique and the most advanced in the industry.

With the technology touching the athlete, the diagnostics are the most accurate available.

Elite athletes run faster & social runners run more.

The technology is unique, with magnetic gates embedded in the track (or synthetic turf) connecting to a sensor or smartphone worn by the runner. This provides competitive athletes and coaches with advanced diagnostic information on force, agility, speed and endurance.

The SMART app connects to the track and gives amateur runners distance, time/split times and interval data for speed and steps, which encourages them to run more and improve their fitness.

Champion athletes such as Dina Asher-Smith (GB), Tatjana Pinto (Germany), Patrick Schneider (Germany) train on Rekortan SMART. They seek out every advantage; they know that smart athletes run faster.

The SMART app connects to the track and gives amateur runners distance, time/split times and interval data for speed and steps, which encourages them to run more and improve their fitness. The SMART app is free so every facility can offer the SMART experience to their clubs and community.

Who wants a dumb track?

In a world connected and powered by data, a dumb track is out-of-date.

Sport Group, Polytan and AstroTurf are committed to this technology leap. SMART technology is available for all Rekortan tracks, we offer a basic SMART setup (two gates) free, and facilities can upgrade to suit their needs. This means with the basic setup and the smartphone app, everyone can be connected to their local track at no cost.

Globally, we have already installed 84 SMART surfaces including the warmup track at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. In the UK alone there are 10 SMART tracks, with 5 more Polytan/Rekortan SMART tracks to come this year:

  • Bridgend, Wales 4: mobile gates

  • Bryncelnnog, Wales: 2 gates

  • Caird Park, Dundee: 13 sprint and 8 distance gates

  • Carmarthen, Wales: 4 sprint gates

  • Colchester, England: 26 sprint and 16 distance gates

  • Harrow, London: 2 sprint gates

  • Kingsmeadow, London: sprint and distance lanes

  • Leckwith Road, Cardiff: 28 sprint and 8 distance gates

  • Norman Park, London: 16 sprint and 16 distance gates

  • Newport, Wales: 42 sprint and 2 distance gates

SMART for life - maintenance free & always on

During construction, the magnetic gates are embedded in the asphalt and covered by the track surface. This means that if a track is re-topped the gates remain in place and active.

They are invisible and always on; there are no wires, force plates, laboratories, or cameras. For facilities there is no set up and no maintenance. Your track will be Smart for life.

Coaches can be SMART Coaches every day. There is no need for pens, paper, or stopwatches. All the data is visible in the diagnostics software, so you can compare data over time as well as between different athletes. Multiple athletes can be tested simultaneously.

We build athletics tracks to the precision required by World Athletics and the sport. Our SMART Technology is a continuation for this. When millimeters and milliseconds matter, don’t rely on satellites that are 20,000 miles away, cameras that require individual set ups, or dangling stopwatches.

SMART tracks were developed by Humontion, Sport Group’s technology partner and is exclusively available from Polytan in Europe and Asia Pacific, and from AstroTurf in the USA.
