World Athletics Continental Tour Gold delivers standout moments on Rekortan tracks

From season openers to final tune ups, Melbourne, Hengelo and Beijing played host to three of the Continental Tour Gold meetings in 2025, each shaping the road to World Championships.

The World Athletics Continental Tour is an annual series of one day meetings that sits just below the Diamond League. In 2025, the Tour spanned 11 Gold level events across Australia, Europe and Asia. Among them, Melbourne, Hengelo and Beijing delivered some of the season’s most influential moments – each staged on World Athletics certified Rekortan tracks that supported athletes in their final push toward the 2025 World Championships.

With the first Gold event for 2026 next month in Melbourne, we thought it would be good to remind us how good 2025 was.

Maurie Plant Meet 2025

Melbourne sets the pace at the Maurie Plant Meet

The Maurie Plant Meet, which is run on a Rekortan track installed by Polytan Australia, launches the WA Continental Tour Gold season, and the 2025 event was marked by a dominant home performance, with Australian athletes winning nine of the 14 events.

Nineteen-year-old Cameron Myers claimed victory in the men’s 1,500m race with a time of 3:34.98, continuing his remarkable rise after becoming the second youngest athlete ever to run a sub four minute mile.

In the women’s 1,500m, Claudia Hollingsworth set a new meet record of 4:05.97, underlining her versatility as an 800m specialist stepping up in distance. Matthew Denny also impressed with a discus throw of 68.17m, earning a Maurie Plant Meet record.

FBK Games strike again as the Netherlands premier athletics meeting

The 2025 FBK Games in the Netherlands delivered performances that hinted at later championship success. Cordell Tinch (USA) won the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.10 while Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers claimed the high jump crown by soaring over the bar at 1.97m.

Homegrown hero Femke Bol delivered a hurdling masterclass, earning a meet record with her finish of 52.51 in the women’s 400m hurdle race, a commanding 2 seconds ahead of Panama’s Gianna Woodruff. Bol would go on to finish the season undefeated.

The FBK Games in Hengelo is the only international top athletics competition in the Netherlands and once again lived up to its reputation as a Tour favourite. The meeting took place at Blankers-Koen Stadium on a Class 1 Rekortan track, installed by Polytan EMEA and certified in 2018.

Beijing provides the final tune-up on an Olympic legacy track

The final Continental Tour Gold meeting of the 2025 season in Beijing saw several athletes secure confident wins just a week out from the World Championships. Canada’s Sarah Mitton claimed victory in the shot put with 19.81m, while Khaleb McRae (USA) won the 400m in 44.64.

Ali Al Balushi (OMA) surprised and impressed with a breakthrough PB of 10.09 to take gold in the men’s 100m, beating favourites Brandon Hicklen (USA) and Andre De Grasse (CAN). While Tatsuki Abe (JPN) edged a dramatic photo finish to win the 110m hurdles.

Athletes across multiple disciplines used the meeting, held at the Beijing National Olympic Centre, as a final tune up before Tokyo.

The Class 2 Rekortan track, originally installed in 2013, was re-certified after recent repair work and re-striping, underscoring its durability after more than a decade of elite use. Installation was delivered by Polytan China, which has also installed three field hockey turfs within the Olympic Park.
